Many
people visit or move to Tasmania and are disappointed when,
after they arrive they find out that the so called Natural
State is not so Natural.

A
typical such disappointment involving substantial economic loss,
took place when Stuart Young moved to Tasmania and invested
in an organic farm at Middleton a quaint rural waterside village
in the Channel area south of Hobart. Like so many others, Stuart
came to Tasmania from elsewhere and fell in love with the place,
what could be better an organic farm in Australia's
Natural State surrounded by
Natural forest. When he and his partner bought
their land at Middleton a year ago, they had no knowledge of
the woodchip industry and no understanding of what was to come.
Stuart's life had been turned upside down by what has happening
next door to him, Gunns
Ltd the woodchipping giant moved in to spread the contrary
to what is Natural.
Now, in the twinkling of an eye, Stuart and his partner are
deeply involved in a battle they fear they cannot win.
Here is some of the drama, DECISION
BY THE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT and PLANNING APPEAL TRIBUNAL--

Gunns
Ltd are now appealing the above Planning Appeal Tribunal
decision to the Supreme Court in Launceston about having to
pay Stuart Young $4,000 as a contribution to the cost of a poisoned
wildlife proof enclosure and are also seeking a costs order.

Another
example of disappointment, is
the issue that is disgusting to visitors, the
accidental Roadkill in Tasmania (the majority of which
appears to happen in the vicinity of clearfelling operations
by
wildlife displacement).
The Launceston Examiner article ROADKILL
A TOURIST TURN-OFF reports, "that (roadkill) carnage
has prompted a string of complaints from the record number of
tourists flooding into the clean, green State". But
what if this issue of disgust was applied to the deliberate
killing of wildlife by the use of 1080 poison and the visitors
became aware and viewed the deliberate, instead of accidental,
carnage of native wildlife. SEE

The
Tasmanian Government is actively hiding the facts of clearly
what is willfully unnatural in Tasmania, the Clearfelling and
Wood Chipping of Native & Old Growth Forests, Replanting
Monoculture Species Not Native to Tasmania and Poisoning Native
& Protected Wildlife, thus facilitating things NOT
Natural. The conduct of hiding the pillage from
tourists by making sure that it can't be seen from tourist routes,
is an example of the deceit in the matter. Shooting the messenger
is the sport of the Tasmanian Government at the expense of the
taxpayer, SEE THE GOVERNMENT
COMPLAINT HERE alleged amongst other things, to be an abuse
of process.

- A clean and green dream destroyed By SIMON
BEVILACQUA
11 January 2004
"IT'S a magical fairyland at night," says Zainab
Clark about her new home. She is in love with her country
cottage up a gravel road in a secluded valley near Cygnet.
Mrs Clark moved from New South Wales to her new Tasmanian
home with husband Geoff and their two young children, Latifa,
11, and Nadira, 7, in June. But after only six months she
wants out. Tomorrow Gunns Ltd contractors plan to start
clearfelling the bush that creates an idyllic backdrop to
the Clarks' rural scene. .....

- Logging to start right next door
11 January 2004
THE Clark family can do little to stop logging beginning
tomorrow on a neighbouring property near Cygnet, the Environmental
Defenders Office says. "If the land is declared a [private
timber reserve] it's totally up to the Forest Practices
Board whether anything is done. Essentially
the resident has no rights."
Mr Mackey said the Forest Practices Code was open-ended
in many areas. Crucial points, such as requirements to keep
logging machinery out of streams, were qualified with "where
feasible and practical". This meant that where loggers
had apparently breached the Forest Practices Code, there
was an escape clause to avoid prosecution. He said it was
prudent for new home buyers to request forest practice plans
for neighbouring properties before they bought. .....

- Forced to fight the damage By SIMON BEVILACQUA
11 January 2004
IN rural settings across the state, Tasmanians are being
forced to fight the clearfelling of properties next door.
Gardener Gay Klok has fought the logging of a property next
to her home at Middleton, south of Hobart. Mrs Klok says
logging and use of herbicides and pesticides have harmed
her garden, which has featured in national and international
publications. Middleton organic farmer Stuart Young fought
to protect his chicken farm from the effects of logging
next door to his property. ......

TIMES A Cry From The Heart ...
our nightmare
The
local newspaper reported on our contamination experience.
But the story downplayed the dangers that were presented
to our community by the presence of Simazine in our drinking
water. The article failed to mention that the contamination
was picked up by accident. It failed to say that the levels
were over three times that accepted by the World Health
Organisation. No reference was made to the fact that no-one
knew what the ORIGINAL levels of contamination were. Nor
did the paper highlight the refusal of the Department of
Environment to extend the monitoring of drinking water to
the rest of the region nor test for the entire range of
pesticides that could also be present in our rainwater tanks.
